Living with disability in a remote community in the Torres Strait Islands

Easy Read
In September 2026, the Disability Dialogue travelled to Thursday Island/Waiben to meet the community and hear what it’s like to live in a remote area with disability.
The Open Dialogue heard from Torres Strait Islander people with disability and their supporters, discussing things like:
– What barriers do people with disability face living in the Torres Strait Islands?
– What support do people with disability and their families have and don’t have?
– What are the positives of living in a remote community living with disability?
The Open Dialogue was held in person on Thursday Island and was not livestreamed.
